He joined the Marines during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

Vernon Foltz ended his life with a .22 caliber rifle.  His death was officially recorded

as suicide by the Westmoreland County coroner.  He was found by his mother.  Suffering

from a wound in his head, he died several hours later in Westmoreland Hospital. Friends

believed that the one-time professional center might have been despondent about a

disastrous season at St. Vincent's.  He was an assistant coach with the team.
