He spent 5 1/2 years in Sing Sing prision for robbing a store manager, John Costello,

of $76.50, a large sum for the times.  Costello was very vocal in supporting Pitts when it

came time for him to play professional football. 

Alabama Pitts also played minor league baseball for the Albany Senators.

Pitts was stabbed to death when he tried to cut in on a couple dancing in a local tavern.  He

was stabbed by the girls escort.
