He is one of the Oldest Living Professional football players

He was involved in an incident while playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1957. 

After intercepting a pass, he was running down the sidelines toward an almost

certain touchdown, when David G. Humphrey stuck his foot out and tripped Bawel.

Bibbles Bawel fell to the ground. In the ensuing uproar, Humphrey slipped away in

the crowd.

Hamilton went on to win the Grey Cup by a score of 32-7.
