Did you know?

There were (2) players with the name 'Buck' Weaver that played pro-football in 1930.

All web sites list Charles 'Buck' Weaver, University of Chicago, as playing for the 1930

Chicago Cardinals AND the 1930 Portsmouth Spartans. However, the 1929 Portsmouth

Spartans program vs. the Ironton Tanks football team lists the player as Ralph 'Buck'

Weaver, from the University of Indiana.

Ralph 'Buck' Weaver did play at Indiana University, played pro football with Portsmouth

for a short time, and became a pro wrestler for many years, a career he was still pursuing

at the time of his death. This is confirmed by one of his obituaries. Evidently, there were

(2) Buck Weavers who played in 1930, and everyone always assumed the same guy

played for both teams.

In July of 1931, Buck Weaver went to Athens, Greece to learn more about wrestling.  He

wrote back to friends that he is learning a few tricks on the trip that should certainly help

when he comes back to America to wrestle.
