Major John Hurley died in action in Italy during World War II.

He recieved the Silver Star for gallantry in action during the invasion

of Sicily.  He led a furious attack of ground troops following dive

bombing activities. 

After his playing days, John Hurley was the freshman football coach

for Washington State from 1936-1938.

In 1939, Hurley became the athletic director for the Taft Union High School

and Junior College.
