Jack Butler died while at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

Did you know?

Jack Butler injured his left knee and had to have an operation at the end of

the 1959 season.  He was interviewed on January 11, 1960 just after the

operation and was asked about his options for the upcoming season.

"I've had a lot of time to think while laying here on my back and somehow

I feel I still can play.  But it will all depend how my knee stands up."

It was funny how I got hurt.  Pete Retzlaff took a short pass over the line

in our game with the Eagles and slipped and fell.  One of our men dropped

on him as he tried to get up and I was coming from the other side.  I tried to

hurdle him but he raised up and his shoulder came in contact with my knee

and I thought the stadium fell in on me."
