Homer R. Gilbert was a part-time police officer for the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania,

Police Department, who died on duty while trying to break up a fight at a high school football

game.  He died of a heart attack.

 

He was able to make it back to the municipal building and asked for a doctor.  He was then

taken to Seidle Memorial Hospital where he died less than an hour later.  He was also an

employee for the Atlantic Refining Company in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

 

'Knuckles Boyle' was his alias that was used in 1934 and possibly 1935 to hide the fact that

he was playing pro ball while attending Albright College.
