Frank Zoppetti was noted for his toughness and speed, which gave him his nickname

"Zip".   He enlisted in the Marines and was shipped out to fight in the Pacific during

World War IIHe saw his first action at Guadacanal and remained in harms way

until the end of the war.

At one point, the ship he had recently disembarked was torpedoed and sunk shortly

after they had the beaches. He lost his Orange Bowl Championship ring which he

had left on board for safe keeping.
